Findon High School is extremely proud to have been a member of the Ice Factor program since 2013! The program aims to increase student engagement, offering students the opportunity to learn new vocational and life skills in an unfamiliar environment.
These life skills are introduced through university-tutorial style classes at the beginning of each session, then applied and reinforced during training, with an opportunity to re-cap and reflect at the end.
While there is considerable emphasis placed on teaching the skills of Ice Hockey, Ice Factor tasks support the development of each Ice Factor student’s literacy and numeracy capability. Tasks such as team management, keeping statistics, newsletter article text production, fundraising initiatives, and the development of promotional materials are designed to teach students vocational skills, while also adding to the sustainability of the program.
